At 7:23 am, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to reports of a detached garage on fire with flames coming through the roof at 8295 SW 135th Avenue in Beaverton. Firefighters from Beaverton Station 66 arrived within four minutes of being dispatched.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a 24 foot by 69 foot cinder block detached garage that was being used as a workshop fully involved in fire. First arriving engine companies initiated an aggressive fire attack and firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to two homes, one of which was five feet from the involved structure and another that was ten feet away.
Of concern to the Incident Commander was the fact that a portion of the roof collapsed and the rear masonry wall was in danger of imminent collapse. Firefighters assumed a defensive position to attain a final knock down of the fire.
The garage was adjacent to a large home that was under renovation. A large amount of materials and equipment being used for the remodel was being stored in the workshop. Noone was inside the garage at the time of the fire and there are no reported injuries.
A fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire. The estimated fire loss for the contents and building is $97,000.
