Progress Station 53 had the honor to host Pile of Puppies, a local nonprofit that creates joyful experiences for chronically and terminally ill children and their families.
As part of Friday’s special event, 10 miniature bull terrier puppies from Kennel Calypso in Manzanita were brought in to play with seven seriously ill children, their parents and siblings.
"Today is all about joy and bringing light to these young survivors and their families," said Jennifer Thompson Trepanier, executive director of Pile of Puppies. "For an hour, these families can just enjoy one another and focus on playing with a pile of puppies. Joy heals. And, what better day to bring everyone together than on National Puppy Day?"
Puppy time was exactly what the Ledson family needed, said Lisa Ledson as she watched her 5-year-old twins, Hannah and Kate, with the furry bundles of energy.
“Watching Hannah and Kate do something they both love together with no restrictions or boundaries is amazing,” she said. “It’s wonderful that we can all share this experience.”
