Most people living in the Portland Metropolitan region experienced something unusual on July 4, 2021. Quiet.
Unlike past years, people heeded the safety messages shared by cities, counties and fire agencies related to fireworks and fire safe behavior during the holiday. In some cases, bans were issued. These collective efforts meant fewer fires and no fireworks-related injuries in TVF&R's service area between July 3-6. This year, there were nine fireworks-related fires compared to 15 in 2020. In 2020, fireworks caused at least $151,655 of damage with $0 damage in 2021.
TVF&R is grateful for the diligence our community demonstrated.
