Three-Alarm Fire Damages Nike Storage Building

Nike Storage Fire.jpg
Just after 3:30p.m., a caller from Nike reported flames and heavy black smoke coming from a large concrete building located at 15075 SW Koll Park in Beaverton. Firefighters from Station 67 arrived in less than seven minutes from being dispatched to the scene. They were met by fire venting from the sides and rollup doors of the building. They began to attack the fire with hoselines while an incident commander called for a second alarm to get more crews, trucks and engines to the scene.

Firefighters applied water from the ground and from aerial ladders for nearly 40 minutes, but fire conditions prompted the incident commander to call a third alarm, bringing more than 65 fire personnel to the scene, including crews from Portland Fire & Rescue and Hillsboro Fire Department.

Based on the large amount of burning materials and hazardous conditions, firefighters were not able to complete a search of the building for more than an hour to confirm reports by security and bystanders that it was not occupied at the time of the fire. At one point, firefighters had to leave the roof and fight the fire defensively based on concerns about structural collapse. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The storage building had a fire alarm but it’s unclear whether it had a commercial fire sprinkler system. As soon as the building is safe, fire investigators will begin the exhaustive process of gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, evaluating burn patterns and processing the scene. There is no damage estimate at this time.
