TVF&R is Prepared for Weekend Wind Event

Weather predication models and fuel analysis indicate a higher-than-normal fire danger this weekend with expected wind gusts, low humidity, and warm temperatures between 11 a.m. Friday and 11 p.m. Saturday.

In preparation for this wind event, TVF&R has taken measures to respond to increased call volume and potential wind-driven fires, including:

  • Staffing additional brush rigs with four-wheel drive capabilities.
  • Setting up a fire operations center to manage resources and support fire crews.
  • Preparing to support Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency (911 dispatch center) in the event the call volume escalates.
  • Coordinating with utility and public safety partners.

As many are aware, public safety power shutoffs are being enacted in the region by Portland General Electric. Additional information on where these may occur and where community resources are available can be found at portlandgeneral.com

In the event of a power shutoff in the Skyline area, Multnomah County opened a community resource center at TVF&R Station 72 in the West Hills at 11646 N.W. Skyline Blvd. that offers charging stations, water, ice, and a place to cool off. PGE personnel will be at the station to provide information to residents without power. The community resource center will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if power has not been restored in the area.

TVF&R encourages area residents to take time to consider your own personal preparedness in the event of a power outage or the need to evacuate. Visit www.tvfr.com/wildfire for resources to help you prepare. TVF&R also asks residents to please use extreme caution this weekend and remember that a burn ban is still in effect.
