Today at 6:17 p.m., multiple callers reported seeing smoke and flames coming from a single-family residence in the 1200 block of Northwest 107th Avenue in the Cedar Mill community.
Multiple units were responding when dispatch upgraded the incident to a first-alarm working fire. Six minutes after receiving the first call to 911, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews arrived to find a well-involved fire in a detached garage with no other exposures other than some nearby vegetation.
With the amount of fire that TVF&R’s first-arriving crews encountered and the structural damage that had already occurred, firefighters initiated an exterior attack of the flames, deploying hose lines on the outside of the structure. Effective water-stream techniques made for a quick knock down of the flames.
Incident command determined the fire was under control at 6:44 p.m. At that point, firefighters could better assess the damage and structural integrity. This approach allowed crews to access the inside of the garage to help with salvage and overhaul operations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported. Estimated damages have not been determined. The fire was contained to the detached garage and nearby vegetation.
