Gov. Kate Brown has appointed TVF&R Assistant Chief Les Hallman as interim director of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST), effective November 2.
Hallman will serve in the interim role while the state seeks a permanent replacement for Eriks Gabliks, who has retired in Oregon to become the new superintendent for the National Fire Academy.
As interim director of DPSST, Hallman will oversee the agency that certifies and licenses police officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, regulatory specialists, 911 emergency dispatchers, emergency medical dispatchers, criminal justice instructors, private security providers, private investigators, and polygraph examiners in the state.
DPSST also works in consultation with public and private safety agencies across the state by providing basic, leadership, and specialized training at the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem and regionally throughout the state. Chief Hallman looks forward to bringing insight learned during his assignment at DPSST back to TVF&R.
