On Saturday, October 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue will host an open house at Station 39 located at 7080 SW McEwan Road in Tualatin. Also serving the communities of Rivergrove and Durham since January 2020, families and community members are invited to tour the station, meet with firefighters, participate in the Junior Firefighter Challenge, and learn fire and life safety tips. The open house will include a brief grand opening ceremony at 11:30 a.m. with remarks from Fire Chief Deric Weiss and Board President Randy Lauer.

Station 39 boasts numerous sustainable features that are the first of their kind for a TVF&R station, including a solar array for alternative energy. The facility is fitted throughout with LED light fixtures to reduce energy demand and lower energy costs. Reclaimed lumber from trees on-site are showcased in the community room ceiling, a feature wall, and station picnic table. Polished concrete floors reduce maintenance and promote a germ-free environment. Additionally, bi-fold doors in the apparatus bay offer decreased response time, decreased maintenance, and increased safety. 

Prior to the station opening, analysis of multiple years of response data showed a new station was needed to meet service demands in the area. Between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2021, there were 3,086 incidents in this station area (an approximately 2-square-mile zone). In 2021 alone, Station 39 responded to 752 incidents, comprising a quarter of the total five-year response.
