[ARCHIVED] Accidental Fire Displaces Three from Home Near Lake Oswego

Firefighters Working at Scene of Woodcrest Lane Residential Fire

On Saturday, November 7, around 6 p.m., firefighters and law enforcement officers
responded to a house fire in the 5100 block of Woodcrest Lane near Lake Oswego.First-arriving firefighters were met by heavy fire, thick smoke, and a car on
fire within the garage of a two-story home.  

Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Lake Oswego Fire Department began toextinguish the fire from the outside while protecting the neighboring home.
They transitioned to fighting fire from inside the home and controlled theblaze within 30 minutes. They worked for more than an hour to salvage
belongings and douse hot spots. 

Afire investigator determined that the accidental fire was caused by
discarded cooking materials that ignited nearby combustibles in the garage ofthe home. By the time the homeowner discovered the fire and 911 was activated,
the garage was engulfed, and fire spread quickly into the house. 

Dueto fire, smoke, and water damage, the insured home is considered a complete
loss. The fire displaced three people. The home did not have a residential firesprinkler system. In addition to Lake Oswego Fire Department, TVF&R was
assisted by Lake Oswego Police Department, Washington County ConsolidatedCommunications Agency (911), Lake Oswego Communications (911), and American
Medical Response.
