[ARCHIVED] Swift Action by Firefighters Prevents Fire from Spreading to Adjacent Unit in a West Linn Duplex

Dollar St Fire WL

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. today, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters were dispatched to a reported commercial fire in the 1300 block of Dollar Street in West Linn.

The initial caller to 911 reported seeing smoke billowing out of a duplex’s windows. While responding to the fire, TVF&R crews upgraded this to a working fire, which brings additional units to the scene to assist in fire ground operations.

Engine 59, which is located off Willamette Drive in West Linn, arrived three minutes after being dispatched. The crew reported smoke and fire showing from windows on the back side of a duplex.

It’s because of the quick actions from the first-arriving crew that firefighters were able to aggressively slow the fire growth and prevent it from spreading to the attached unit and other nearby trees and structures.

One unit in the duplex sustained significant damage from smoke and fire. Two residents were displaced by the fire that caused an undetermined financial loss.

A search of the fire unit and the adjoining unit were completed with no injuries reported. It appears the fire unit was unoccupied at the time of the incident. An initial report suggests there were no working smoke alarms in the fire unit.

Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue reminds you that working smoke alarms save lives. Please take time today to check smoke alarms in your home to ensure they are working.
