At 8:23 pm today firefighters were dispatched to a reported tree fire that was spreading to a nearby apartment complex in the 8200 block of SW Pfaffle St. in Tigard.
Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue Tigard station 51 arrived within a few minutes of dispatch and found several large trees and a fence on fire at the rear of the apartment complex, with fire spreading to the exterior of several adjacent apartments.
Firefighters began aggressive firefighting operations, using hoses from the exterior of the structure to extinguish the fire and keep the fire from spreading to the interior of the adjacent apartment building. Due to the swift actions of first arriving firefighters the fire was contained to the exterior of the apartment complex, with only light heat and smoke damage inside four apartment units.
Several large trees, a fence, and a large wood pile at a neighboring property were also damaged in the fire. There were no injuries reported.
Four families were displaced as a result of this fire. The families were being assisted with temporary housing needs by the American Red Cross. A TVF&R fire investigator responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is undetermined at this time.
A second alarm initially requested by the incident commander was quickly recalled once firefighters had the fire under control. Firefighters remained on scene for over 2 hours mopping up hot spots and checking for extension. TVF&R was assisted on scene by Lake Oswego Fire Department and Tigard PD.
