[ARCHIVED] Firefighters Busy With Two Separate Fires This Afternoon

Just after 12:00pm today firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the 23000 block of SW Price Ave in Sherwood.  Firefighters from station 33 arrived within minutes after dispatch, and found smoke coming from the second story of a single family dwelling.  Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior fire attack, and quickly brought the fire under control.

Firefighters were able to determine that all occupants had made it outside of the residence safely, and contained the fire to the upper level of the structure.  There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. Due to extensive smoke damage throughout the structure the residents were unable to return to their home.  The American Red Cross assisted the family with temporary housing needs.  A TVF&R fire investigator is currently working to determine the cause.

Later in the afternoon, at 3:12pm firefighters were called to a reported apartment fire in the 15200 block of SW Teal Blvd in Beaverton.  Firefighters from South Beaverton Station 66 arrived to find smoke coming from a first floor window of an 8-plex apartment building.  Firefighters quickly gained entry into the apartment and discovered a small fire burning near the base of the window.  Firefighters extinguished the small blaze and ventilated the apartment.

The size of the blaze and the quick actions of the firefighters limited damage to the apartment, allowing the resident to remain in the apartment after firefighters had ensured the building was safe.  A TVF&R investigator was called to the scene to assist with determining the cause of the fire.

In both instances the residents of the structures were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms.  TVF&R would like to remind everyone that only working smoke alarms save lives, and to test your smoke alarms monthly.
