Posted on: September 7, 2017[ARCHIVED] Sept. 11, 2001, Remembrance Ceremony Set for Monday at Veterans Memorial Park in Beaverton
The community is invited to attend a Sept. 11, 2001, Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11, at Veterans Memorial Park in Beaverton.
The observance event begins at 9 a.m. at the park that is located along Watson and Washington avenues at Seventh Street.
Program speakers include Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue Fire Chief Mike Duyck, Beaverton Police Chief Jim Monger, Tualatin Valley Firefighters Union Local 1660 President Capt. Rocky Hanes, Beaverton City Councilor Lacey Beaty and Beaverton American Legion Post 124 Commander Steve Gerber. The program will include a moment of silence to remember the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, and honor the memory of those who lost their lives.
Those who attend will notice TVF&R firefighters and personnel wearing customized camouflage shirts they purchased as part of an effort to raise awareness and support for the work of the United Services Organization (USO), a nonprofit that assists troops through every step of their service — from deployment to rehabilitation to reintegration. Men and women working in law enforcement and the fire service subscribe to the military’s ethic of stewardship and willingness to sacrifice their own lives to save others.
