[ARCHIVED] Firefighters Extinguish Two-Alarm Auto Shop Fire in Tigard

At 10:49 a.m. today, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire at an auto repair shop located on Tiedeman Avenue near Greenburg Road.

As firefighters were on their way to the scene, they could see a large column of black smoke in the distance and immediately requested an upgrade to a first alarm to bring in adequate resources to battle the working fire.
First incoming crews responded within five minutes of being dispatched to find a one-story auto shop with heavy, black smoke billowing out of the front of the building. Due to heavy fire conditions, firefighters initiated a defensive fire attack from the exterior of the building. The auto shop contained various combustible materials along with a couple vehicles, which made firefighting conditions challenging.

A second alarm was eventually requested to bring in additional resources to gain control of the fire that was extinguished in approximately one hour.
The owner and an employee of the auto shop were in the building at the time the fire broke out but were able to escape without injuries. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation. No damage estimate is available at this time.

TVF&R crews were assisted by Lake Oswego Fire Department. Portland Fire & Rescue was also dispatched to the scene in case additional resources were needed. A deputy from Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, who happened to be nearby, was first on scene and immediately provided traffic control while officers from Tigard Police Department arrived to also assist in ensuring safety of the area.
