Posted on: December 15, 2016[ARCHIVED] Firefighters Battle Fully-Involved Residential Fire in Sherwood

At 11:23 p.m., Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a report of a fully-involved residential fire in the 23000 block of Mansfield Street in Sherwood.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the house engulfed in flames. They immediately ensured all occupants had evacuated and began a defensive fire attack while medic crews evaluated the two patients that were home when the fire broke out.
The two occupants inside the home were woken up to the sound of a crackling fire and inhalation of smoke. Their smoke alarms were not working. Neighbors called 911 while the occupants evacuated through the upper story of their house. Both patients were transported to a Portland-area hospital; one patient has life-threatening injuries.
The home was significantly damaged and will not be habitable. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Crews remain on scene to extinguish hot spots and ensure the fire doesn’t rekindle.
TVF&R wants to remind everyone to double check their smoke alarms to make sure they are in good working order. Working smoke alarms in your home greatly increases your chances of surviving a fire. They are designed to activate early to help ensure that you and your family have time to safely escape from your home.
