At 9:54am this morning, firefighters from several Beaverton stations were dispatched to reports of a fire at the Mount Vernon Condo complex on SW 17th Avenue in Beaverton.
First arriving crews found black smoke coming from the roof area of a detached multi-vehicle garage. Their quick extinguishment of the fire limited damage to the structure and contents. Two garage units had moderate damage and there were no injuries.
A TVF&R investigator determined the cause of the fire to be improper disposal of smoking materials.
TVF&R Public Information Officer, Lysa Vattimo, reminds smokers to extinguish their cigarettes completely. “Put it out, all the way out, every time. The best way to do that is to extinguish them in water before disposing of them.”
