Just after 3 p.m. on January 9, 2016, a caller to 9-1-1 reported a fire at his neighbor’s single-story home in the 6700 block of SW Briarcliff Circle in Beaverton. First-arriving firefighters attacked the fire and evaluated a man who had evacuated the home and sustained burns to his arms and legs. He was later transported by Metro West Ambulance to Emmanuel Hospital. Two dogs who had been in the home at the time of the fire safely escaped.
Crews worked for thirty minutes to extinguish the fire and kept it from spreading to an adjacent home. Their efforts were hampered by a significant amount of clutter in the home and overgrown vegetation around the home. They spent another hour ensuring that hot spots amongst piles of debris didn’t rekindle the fire.
The home was significantly damaged and will not be habitable. A fire investigator is working to determine how the fire started. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
