[ARCHIVED] TVF&R Firefighters Respond to Six-unit Complex Fire in Beaverton

At 3:26 p.m. on Thursday, firefighters responded to reports of a six-unit, single-story complex on fire at 13270 SW Farmington Road in Beaverton. Multiple calls to 911 indicated that heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming out of the building.

Firefighters from Station 67 arrived within three minutes and found one of the middle units fully involved. Access to the fire was challenging due to narrow walkways and tight fence lines.

One team of firefighters worked its way toward the involved unit while another worked its way behind the complex to protect nearby structures and prevent the fire from spreading.

The involved unit had a single occupant at the time of the fire, but the person was able to safely evacuate without injury before crews arrived.

Residents told fire crews that a dog was trapped inside one of the units. Firefighters were able to gain access to the unit and safely rescue the dog.

Crews brought the fire under control, and a search of the units showed that everyone safely evacuated the complex.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene and assisted six adults and one child who were displaced by the fire. All six units are uninhabitable at this time – four due to significant fire damage and the other two due to smoke damage.

A fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire and a damage estimate. Beaverton Police assisted with traffic control. Farmington Road was closed until 5 p.m. Trimet provided a warming bus to keep residents warm as evening temperatures dropped.

When a fire sprinkler system is present, the likelihood of injuries and costly damage is dramatically reduced.
