The Sherwood Police Department and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue have been jointly investigating the fire that started the afternoon of Aug. 10, which destroyed a train trestle and burned approximately eight acres near Tualatin-Sherwood Road and Langer Parkway.
A TVF&R fire investigator and a Sherwood detective conducted several witness interviews and examined material and photo evidence to inform the investigation.
TVF&R Investigation
Fire investigators focus on origin and cause when they evaluate evidence from fires. Law enforcement officers are responsible for any charges or citations if there are suspected actions that may have contributed to a fire.
A TVF&R fire investigator has determined that the most probable cause of the Sherwood trestle fire was careless smoking.
Sherwood Police Charge Juveniles and Adult
Based on witness interviews and material evidence, the Sherwood Police Department has charged three male juveniles with reckless burning. Joshua Deibert, 27, has been charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Any questions regarding the criminal investigation should be referred to the Sherwood Police Department.
