Posted on: August 14, 2015[ARCHIVED] TVF&R Firefighters Extinguish Duplex Fire in Aloha
At 7:46 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to reports of a commercial fire at 18087 SW Monte Verdi Blvd. in Aloha. Initial reports to 911 indicated that a duplex unit was fully engulfed in fire.
As firefighters responded to the scene, a thick column of black smoke could be seen rising from the area.
Upon arrival, firefighters found one of the duplex units fully involved in fire, which had spread into the attic and to the attached unit next door. Fire had also spread to several 200-foot-tall fir trees in the back yard.
As crews pulled hose lines to the back side of the building to put out the exterior fire, another crew worked to extinguish the fire in the trees with a deck gun mounted on the engine. The deck gun is capable of putting out 1,000 gallons of water per minute.
Crews worked aggressively to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent properties. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. Both units were vacant at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.
A fire investigator is on scene working to examine material evidence and conduct witness interviews. No damage estimate is available at this time.
The structure did not have a fire sprinkler system. When a fire sprinkler system is present, the likelihood of injuries and costly damage is dramatically reduced. More information about fire sprinkler systems can be found at http://www.tvfr.com/index.aspx?nid=144.
