At approximately 4pm Tuesday, TVF&R firefighters were dispatched to a fire in a Tigard condominium near the streets of SW Summerfield Dr. and SW Greens Way. On arrival crews found smoke coming from the condo and quickly entered the home to find fire in the bathroom. After initial fire knockdown, crews checked for extension and discovered that flames had extended into the wall space and up to the attic. With fire in the attic space, firefighters had to cut roof holes to search for the seat of the fire and then full y extinguish.
The structure was divided into two separate condos. Both units suffered significant smoke damage throughout and heavy fire damage in the attic space. In addition, one of the units also suffered significant fire damage to the bathroom and kitchen.
One person and a dog have been displaced by the fire. The other condo is currently unoccupied and no injuries were reported.
A fire investigator ruled the fire was caused during the course of a bathroom remodel. A contractor was cutting a stud with a reciprocating saw when the blade came in contact with an electrical wire which then shorted and started the fire.
