At 9:41 p.m., firefighters from TVF&R's Progress Station 53 responded to a commercial fire alarm at 10130 SW Nimbus Ave. in Tigard, which is located in a business complex.
Upon arrival, they began investigating the cause of the alarm and, in the process of their investigation, came across heavy black smoke coming from one of the building's bay doors. As they approached the bay door, a man met them carrying a fire extinguisher. They escorted the man to safety, called for additional resources, and initiated an offensive fire attack.
Firefighters located the main body of fire and extinguished it, but learned it extended to other parts of the building, including void spaces. The incident commander called for a second-alarm response, bringing further resources to the scene to employ a myriad of tactics to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries to firefighters or the occupant.
There are six suites in the building; five currently have tenants, and one is vacant. A TVF&R fire investigator determined that the fire originated in one of the businesses - Rapid Technologies. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. There is no damage estimate; however, all six suites sustained fire and/or smoke damage and will not be able to open for business until further notice. The building was not required to have fire sprinklers.
