At approximately 2:23pm TVF&R firefighters along with other members of the Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium were dispatched to a report kayakers in the Tualatin River near West Linn. On arrival crews found that two of three kayakers had flipped while going over a low-head dam on the river. All kayakers were stranded to some degree, with one who was waist deep in fast moving water and holding onto a log, waiting for rescue. Crews were able to maneuver their water craft up river to pluck the victim from the water, while the other two kayakers were assisted as well. All three kayakers were evaluated for mild hypothermia and left the scene after being warmed up.
The kayakers indicated that two of their boats bumped into each other as they went over the low-head dam and then flipped. The three younger males all had lifejackets.
The Clackamas County Water Consortium includes Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Clackamas County Fire, Lake Oswego Fire & Gladstone Fire, as well as others. All assisted in the rescue.
