[ARCHIVED] Portland HeartMap AED Challenge

PDX HeartMap Challenge

Automated external defibrillators, otherwise known as AEDs, save lives. During a cardiac arrest if the victim receives defibrillation within three minutes, the chances of survival increase by 25%. Here’s your chance to improve awareness for AED locations and potentially win great prizes!

From November 15th through December 15th, Oregon Health & Science University Department of Emergency Medicine in partnership with the University of Washington, is sponsoring the Portland Metro HeartMap Challenge. This scavenger hunt event encourages citizens to locate AEDs in the Portland metro region so they can be found more quickly in an emergency. A $10,000 grand prize will be awarded to the individual or team that identifies the most unique AEDs.

Participation is easy so dust off that competitive spirit, challenge your family and friends, and help build a stronger awareness for AEDs in our community.

Please remember that these public places may be busy doing great work for our communities so be kind and let them know you’re there and why.

For registration and full contest rules visit heartmap.uwctc.org or www.cprnation.org.

Share information about cardiac arrest, AEDs and the Portland Metro HeartMap Challenge on social media. Check out the hashtag #PDXMetroHeartMap and follow @CPRNation and @OHSUNews on Twitter, or Facebook at CPR Nation or OHSU.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue has long been an advocate for cardiac health initiatives, whether it’s working with our local schools teaching Hands-Only CPR or being the first fire department in Oregon to launch the PulsePoint smartphone app. Our crews are always ready to respond at a moment’s notice to any emergency but it’s the quick action you take that can help save a life during a cardiac arrest event.
