The crew from Station 61 spent their afternoon with the staff at Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation and Health Center. At the gathering Firefighter Tompkins announced that the money raised by IAFF Local 1660's pink shirt sales will be donated to the clinic to help pay for breast cancer screenings.
Virginia Garcia Memorial served over 36,000 patients last year. Their mission is to reduce barriers for traditionally underserved populations. Patients coming to the health center speak 75 different languages and dialects.
This is a cause that our firefighters care deeply about and they know that increasing access to screenings is an important step in reducing breast cancer deaths in the community.
To all of the breast cancer survivors out there -- keep up the fight!
