[ARCHIVED] Large fire consumes three-story home in West Linn

Shannon Place fire

At 4:43pm, the first of multiple calls came into 9-1-1 from a neighbor reporting thick, black smoke and flames coming from a nearby home. Crews arrived within five minutes to find a three-story home at 22030 Shannon Place in West Linn fully engulfed with fire burning through the roof and a large column of black smoke. Crews initiated an aggressive fire attack and found fire inside the home burning on the first and second floors as well as involvement of much of the rear of the home. A second alarm response was called to bring additional firefighters and resources to the scene.

Crews confirmed that the residents of the home were away at work but a family cat was still unaccounted for. As additional crews arrived, fire had spread to the basement of the home fully involving every level of the structure. At approximately 5:10pm, crews reported that parts of the second floor had collapsed creating instability of the structure. Shortly after, parts of the third and first floor collapsed and crews were immediately ordered out of the home for safety. Firefighters then transitioned to a defensive attack fighting the fire only from outside of the structure for the safety of the crews.

The fire continued to rekindle in hot spots and firefighters knocked them down as they discovered them and worked to contain any extension. No other homes or structures were threatened by the fire. The homeowners arrived to the scene and neighbors reported locating the family cat unharmed. No injuries were reported. More than 70 firefighters responded to the scene to fight this fire. TVF&R crews were assisted from Clackamas Fire District #1, Portland Fire & Rescue, Lake Oswego Fire, and TVF&R volunteers.

TVF&R investigators are interviewing witnesses and neighbors as well as examining material evidence to determine a cause and damage estimate. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide assistance to the home owners.
