At 8:15 am, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting that flames and heavy black smoke were coming from a row of eight attached garages at the Riverwood Heights Apartments located at 12070 SW Fischer Road in Tigard. Several callers indicated that the fire had spread to nearby trees.
Upon arrival, firefighters determined that fire had spread up the back side of one of the garages and extended into the shared attic space. They initiated an aggressive fire attack and forced entry into five of the eight units to ensure that the fire had not spread further and minimize damage to the contents. One vehicle sustained minor damage due to heat exposure.
The eight garages were freestanding and not attached to any apartment homes, so the damage was isolated to the garages. The fire was determined to be under control within approximately 10 minutes of firefighters’ arrival.
There were no injuries reported. A Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue investigator is on scene working to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimate is available at this time.
