Nearby firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue’s Station 59 in Willamette could see a column of smoke from a half-mile away. As soon as the crew on Engine 59 arrived, they accessed a nearby hydrant to start attacking the fire from the outside while waiting for additional TVF&R resources, as well as units from neighboring Lake Oswego Fire Department, Gladstone Fire Department, and Clackamas Fire District #1.

Based on the size of the fire and the threat to nearby homes, fire commanders called a second alarm to summon additional resources. Within five minutes of spraying water at the bulk of the fire from outside the home, crews were able to get inside to target areas burning most intensely. Additional crews secured utilities and ventilated the fire which had breached the roof while other firefighters worked to salvage valuable belongings while the fire continued to burn within walls and void spaces.

After forty minutes of intense work, firefighters extinguished the fire.

At this hour, firefighters continue to mop up and check for hot spots. A fire investigator will be conducting witness interviews. Once smoke is clear and the structure of the home is deemed safe, the investigator will also examine material evidence and burn patterns to try and discern the cause and origin of the fire.

So far there are no injuries as a result of the fire, but a neighbor was treated by firefighter paramedics for an unrelated medical problem.
