Shortly after 2:00 am, a couple pulled over in a grocery store parking lot near SW 185th & SW Farmington Rd. in Aloha to call 9-1-1. The expectant mother knew that she would not make it to the hospital in time to have her baby.

Firefighters from Central Beaverton Station 67 responded to the call. Firefighter Paramedic Kevin Bebb and Firefighter Medic Eric Phillips continued on with the patient in the ambulance on the way to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. Firefighters delivered the baby in the back of the ambulance at the corner of SW Hall Blvd. and SW Canyon Rd. at 2:35 am. After delivering the healthy baby girl they stopped the ambulance so that the baby’s father could get in and meet his new daughter. Firefighters described the scene as “heartwarming”.

This morning’s special delivery is the second baby that Station 67 has delivered in 24 hours. Yesterday, Station 67 Captain Paramedic Kraig Moisan and Firefighter Paramedic Jesse Fitzpatrick delivered a healthy baby boy on Hwy 217 North on the way to Providence St. Vincent at 2:21 am, also in the back of a Metro West ambulance.

“Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue congratulates these families on the birth of their babies,” said TVF&R Public Information Officer Alisa Cour. “These little ones will have exciting stories to tell for years to come about being born during Portland’s biggest February snowstorm in 10 years.”
