[ARCHIVED] Firefighters Safely Extricate Sheriffs Deputy

Vehicle Extrication

At 1:38pm today (10/15) firefighters were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of TV HWY and 209th Ave. On arrival, crews found three vehicles involved, including a Washington County Sheriff's patrol car. After a quick survey of the scene, firefighters found the sheriff's deputy pinned in his vehicle and called for additional resources to extricate him from the car. The officer was extricated in approximately 20 minutes and was transported to Providence St. Vincent with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Last year, TVF&R firefighters responded to more than 3000 motor vehicle accidents. With each accident, crews work to quickly assess the scene for possible injuries, including how many and severity. Are patients entrapped and in need of extrication with hydraulic tools? Is there a hazardous materials spill? The list goes on, but it's safe to say TVF&R firefighters will work hard to help regardless of the situation. That said, the best motor vehicle accident is one that never occurs. As season changes, be sure to assess YOUR driving situation before heading out! Are the roads wet? How heavy is the rain? Are your headlights on?

Be safe!
