An early morning collision halted traffic at a busy intersection at SW Scholls Ferry Road and SW Tile Flat Road. The first call to 9-1-1 came in at 6:25am reporting two vehicles – a passenger truck and an SUV – collided and that the damage was significant to both vehicles. First arriving crews found one person in each of the vehicles. Life Flight was placed on standby and TVF&R’s Technical Rescue team was called to assist crews on-scene with extrication of one patient. Crews made swift access to the patient by stabilizing the vehicle and removing the roof, while inside firefighter medics provided advanced medical care. Both patients were transported by ground ambulance to OHSU hospital. Initial reports were that both patients were transported with non-life-threatening injuries. Police helped to protect the safety of the scene by diverting traffic to nearby arterial roadways.
TVF&R fire engines and trucks carry a complement of extrication equipment as every incident involving motor vehicle collisions can be different and may evolve based on changing conditions. TVF&R maintains a highly-trained team of rescuers with advanced tools and equipment to respond to such emergencies as vehicle entrapments, rope rescues, trench rescues, or building collapses. The Technical Rescue Unit responds across TVF&R’s entire service area.
