Before dawn this morning, the loud tones of the smoke alarm awoke residents of 5547 Sinclair St. in West Linn to a smoke filled garage and fire on the roof. After safely exiting the home, the homeowner called 9-1-1 at 6:44am bringing fire crews to the scene. Both residents were able to leave their home safely without injury. No other occupants or pets were reported to be in the home.
When crews arrived, they found fire on the roof and quickly initiated fire attack and knock down of the fire. The fire was upgraded to a first alarm response bringing additional resources to the scene for assistance. Crews also searched the home to ensure everyone had exited safely and confirmed that information. TVF&R crews were assisted by Clackamas Fire District #1 and TVF&R volunteers at the scene.
A TVF&R investigator determined the cause to be accidental with the origin of the fire within the fire box of the fireplace. Estimated damages are $35,000 for the home and contents. The two residents of the home indicated that they will be staying with relatives nearby.
This fire illustrates the life-saving impact of having working smoke alarms in your home. TVF&R would like to remind everyone to check their smoke alarms once per month. While our crews are ready to respond to any emergency at any time, a working smoke alarm could be your first warning of an emergency in your home.
