On Saturday, November 7, around 6 p.m., firefighters and law enforcement officers responded to a house fire in the 5100 block of Woodcrest Lane near Lake Oswego.
First-arriving firefighters were met by heavy fire, thick smoke, and a car on fire within the garage of a two-story home.
Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Lake Oswego Fire Department began to extinguish the fire from the outside while protecting the neighboring home. They transitioned to fighting fire from inside the home and controlled the blaze within 30 minutes. They worked for more than an hour to salvage
belongings and douse hot spots.
A fire investigator determined that the accidental fire was caused by discarded cooking materials that ignited nearby combustibles in the garage of the home. By the time the homeowner discovered the fire and 911 was activated, the garage was engulfed, and fire spread quickly into the house.
Due to fire, smoke, and water damage, the insured home is considered a complete loss. The fire displaced three people. The home did not have a residential firesprinkler system. In addition to Lake Oswego Fire Department, TVF&R was assisted by Lake Oswego Police Department, Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency (911), Lake Oswego Communications (911), and American Medical Response.
