Just after 5 a.m. this morning, multiple callers to 911 reported a house on fire in the 14000 block of Todd Street in unincorporated Washington County. Due to multiple reports coming in for the same location, the fire was immediately upgraded to a first alarm to bring in adequate resources. 

The battalion chief arrived first on scene to find heavy smoke and flames throughout the house. Additional incoming crews immediately began aggressive fire attack measures and were able to extinguish the fire in approximately 20 minutes. 

Two residents were able to safely evacuate. One dog escaped the house and was found shortly after by a Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Unfortunately, a second dog perished in the fire. Our hearts are broken for the owners who lost their pet family member.  

The house is a complete loss and the two residents and dog are displaced. The residents declined Red Cross assistance and will be staying with friends or family. 

Cause of the fire is under investigation: investigator is on scene.

TVF&R was assisted by Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who closed the road to ensure safety of the scene, located the missing dog and provided emotional support to the displaced residents. PGE was also on scene assisting.
