[ARCHIVED] Wilsonville Residents Escape Early Morning House Fire

Early morning house fire in Wilsonville

At 2:13 am, a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report that a home located at 28992 SW Courtside Drive in Wilsonville was fully involved in fire.

Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the garage and part of the home. Due to the size of the fire, firefighters initiated a defensive attack using Engine 52's deck gun to hit the bulk of the fire with a large amount of water. After the main body of exterior fire was extinguished, firefighters entered the structure with multiple hose lines to make an interior attack on the fire. The fire was deemed under control at 2:41 am.

Firefighters successfully shut off a natural gas line at the base of the home's meter, which sustained damage in the fire and resulted in an open line that was blowing natural gas and feeding the fire on one side of the house.

Thanks to working smoke alarms, residents were awoken and escaped the home safely. Unfortunately, two pets went missing; one pet was found deceased and another is still missing at this time. A TVF&R fire investigator is on scene working to determine the fire's cause.

TVFR reminds citizens that working smoke alarms more than double your chance of surviving a fire. It's important to:

* Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and inside every sleeping area
* Test your smoke alarms monthly to make sure they are working properly
* Never disconnect or remove batteries from smoke alarms - keep them noisy
* Make a home escape plan and practice it regularly
