Quick action and teamwork kept a fast-moving grass fire from spreading to barns and timber. Just after 2p.m. on August 29, callers to 911 reported more than two acres burning near the 16000 block of NW Mason Hill Rd. in Washington County.
Firefighters from TVF&R, Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, Banks Fire District and ODF used brush rigs and engines to surround and extinguish the fire with crews prioritizing areas nearest structures. Water was shuttled to the scene since the area lacked hydrants. More than eight acres burned. No people or animals were injured as a result of the fire.
TVF&R has been serving the area where the fire occurred as part of a contract with Washington County Fire District 2 since September, 2015. This November, voters will have the opportunity to decide if they’d like to permanently join Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.
