At 1:27 a.m. on Friday, emergency dispatchers with the Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency received several reports of a fire in the garage of a three-story townhouse at the intersection of Southwest Morrison and Taylor Street in Cedar Mill.
Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue arrived to find heavy black smoke pouring out of the garage and the second floor of the townhouse.
Crews received information that the involved unit had one occupant, but she was believed to be out of town. Occupants of the nearby units were able to safely evacuate their homes.
Firefighters quickly located the main body of fire and extinguished it, but discovered it had extended to the attic and other parts of the building, including void spaces.
Firefighters deployed a multitude of tactics to access and control the extended fire. Crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading into the adjacent units. Crews remained on scene for several hours to put out hot spots and salvage belongings.
There were no injuries to firefighters or any of the occupants.
The primary townhouse was part of a large seven-townhouse structure. A TVF&R fire investigator remains on scene, sifting through material evidence, and conducting witness interviews.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and there is no damage estimate at this time.
