OUR ROLE IN A DISASTER

Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue's (TVF&R) 29 fire stations (28 career and 1 volunteer) respond to tens of thousands of incidents each year including fires, emergency medical calls, technical rescues, water rescues, and hazardous materials calls.

Our crews are trained to operate independently during a major disaster, even when communications systems may be impacted. If a disaster happens, they will be assessing damage in their immediate area and rendering aid where most needed. This also means that someone going to a fire station during a disaster to seek aid, volunteer, or donate items may find that our crews are not there.

TVF&R’s Fire Operations Center (FOC) activates during disasters and other major events to coordinate our operations across our service area with other public partners and service providers. The FOC is located in a seismically resilient building with backup power, designed to maintain our information and systems during and after a disaster.

YOUR ROLE IN A DISASTER

Prepare yourself and your family. Depending on the disaster, emergency responders will be extremely busy and must prioritize the most critical life-threatening calls. There is a chance roads may be blocked or damaged too, preventing us from getting to places. Ensuring you and your family are prepared (and neighbors) will help increase your chances of survival and help you overcome the challenges and stress faced when disaster strikes.
