Station 53 is located in
the Progress area near Washington Square Mall and is staffed by a total
of 12 personnel (4 on each 24-hour shift). ALS (Advanced Life Support)
Engine 53 is staffed by a paramedic at all times. Station personnel
also function as members of the District Hazardous Materials Team. The
State of Oregon contracts with Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue to staff
a team of personnel extensively trained to the Hazardous Materials
Technician level to provide hazardous materials response to an area in
northwest Oregon. This training has prepared them to respond to a
variety of hazardous material-related calls in the northwest corner of
the state. In addition to being the home base of the HazMat 53 apparatus,
the Progress fire station is the base station for
Peak Activity Rescue Unit
R93, which is staffed during times of peak incident
occurrence and utilized as backfill coverage for stations responding to
calls, scheduled for training, or for administrative leave.
