Almost 25% of the nations 400,000 annual residential fires occur in apartments. One life is lost for every 125 apartment fires. Since 1995, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue has fought over 23 major apartment fires.

Causes of Fires

Cooking is the leading cause of home fires in the United States. It is also the leading cause of home fire injuries.
Careless smoking is the leading cause of fire deaths.
Heating appliances are the second leading cause of residential fire and the second leading cause of fire deaths.
Arson is both the third leading cause of residential fires and residential fire deaths.
