
Hazardous Materials
Tualatin Valley Fire
and Rescue protects our community by monitoring, inspecting, and
pre-planning hazardous materials facilities in our District.
The following is a brief
overview of how the TVF&R HazMat Prevention Program works to reduce,
plan and prepare for Hazardous Materials incidents, protecting our
community, firefighters, and the environment.

TVFR tracks facilities that use or store
hazardous materials in our District and identifies them through the
regional dispatch system.

Inspects all “HazMat” facilities for
compliance with applicable fire codes & laws relating to safe storage
of chemicals.

Maintain emergency response plans /
pre-plans for each of these facilities.

Provides emergency response training for TVF&R’s
Regional Hazmat Team and firefighters at Hazmat
Facilities.

Reviews new installations of hazardous
materials for local building departments to ensure that fire &
life-safety codes and hazardous materials laws are being complied
with.

Assists District personnel, public
agencies, industry and the general public with chemical-related issues and
questions, hazardous materials laws & emergency response regulations.

Supports the Hazmat Team in planning &
training, and provides on-site technical assistance during hazardous
materials incident responses

Participates in local and state law making
process relating to hazardous materials

Assists state
committee’s in preventing, preparing and coordinating for state-wide
hazardous materials incidents.
