Open Burning
Spring burning season will open on
March 1, 2008. Please read the following
information to make sure you are in an area where open burning is
permitted. (See Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Burn Map)
Persons wishing to conduct open burning operations must call the
recorded
open burning information line (503-629-8605);
on the day they wish to burn, during the season. The burn line
will give information, instructions and confirm whether or not it is a
DEQ authorized burn day.
Backyard burning is not permitted at anytime
inside the permanent DEQ burn ban boundary. See DEQ burn ban map
for boundary areas.
Businesses and individuals who reside within our service area are subject
to TVF&R's burn policies and procedures, including portions of
Multnomah (Skyline) and Clackamas Counties (Wilsonville, West Linn,
Rosemont and Stafford-Tanner Basin).
Emergency: If a fire starts to spread to other combustible
materials or threatens structures, call 9-1-1 immediately.

(backyard pit, individuals hiking or camping with a campfire in a
designated and/or self-made fire pit). Individuals intending
to burn in this manner should use caution and common sense!

Ceremonial fires or small fires used for religious or
ceremonial purposes may be approved.
Note: These fires require a permit
issued by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

Individuals found to be
in violation of the open burning regulations may be issued a citation
and/or found liable for any property loss damage and suppression costs
resulting from a burning incident.

Agricultural Burning
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue no longer
issues written agricultural burning permits.Burning of
agricultural debris, however will be allowed in compliance with the Fire
District’s Safe Burning Regulations,
DEQ’s Air Quality
Regulations, and Oregon State Statutes. To determine if you qualify as an agricultural operation,
or
for definitions of burn types and a description of burnable materials,
contact DEQ at 503-229-5393.
Please review the following regulations for all agricultural burning
operations:

Agricultural burning is allowed on
specified burn days only during the designated burn seasons. For information on burn days, call the
burn line at 503-629-8605.

No burning is allowed within 50 feet of
any property line, building, fence, or combustible growth.

A competent person must constantly attend
any outdoor fire.

The attendant should always have a charged
hose line, fire extinguisher, or other available means of controlling
fire spread, and a cell phone in case of emergency.

Burn piles should be of a manageable size
(approximately 10 cubic yards in volume);
fire breaks should be created around piles to prevent fire from
spreading.

No burning is allowed after dark. All
fires MUST be completely extinguished by nightfall.
Violation of safe burning regulations or air quality regulations may be
subject to citation and/or fines from TVF&R and
DEQ. Property owners may be
held liable for costs related to fire fighting or damage to neighboring
property or structures as a result of unsafe burning practices.
All open burning shall be
done during designated burn
seasons: March 1 through June 15, and October 1 through December 15.

Backyard Burning
Backyard burning is
not permitted at any time inside the permanent DEQ burn ban area.
See DEQ burn map.
Backyard burning outside the DEQ burn ban
area is permitted during designated burn seasons and on DEQ approved
burn days. Backyard burning includes the use of burn barrels and/or
burning yard debris in an outdoor fireplace.
