Jeff Johnson
Jeff Johnson is the Fire
Chief of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, 2nd Vice
President of the IAFC, and a noted national
speaker on Leadership.
He is also Past
President of the Western Division of the IAFC and
Chair of Oregon’s State Interoperability Executive
Council and Oregon’s Meritorious Service Committee.
He is Past President of the Oregon Fire Chiefs
Association (OFCA), Past Chair of the Governor’s
Fire Service Policy Council, a member of the
International Fire Service Training Association’s
Development and Validation Committee, and a member
of the IAFC’s Communication Committee.
Chief Johnson holds a
Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Business, and
Associate Degrees in Fire Science and Criminal
Justice Administration. As a graduate of the
National Fire Academy’s highest program, he received
the Executive Fire Officer certificate and Chief
Fire Officer Designation from the Commission on Fire
Accreditation International. In addition, he has
co-authored two books: Cooperative Service through
Consolidations, Mergers and Contracts... Making the
Pieces Fit and Recruiting, Training, and Maintaining
Volunteer Firefighters. Additionally, he sits on the
Board of Advisors for two private corporations.
Henry Hegerle
Henry provides services for architects and
engineers. He is a third-party plan reviewer
licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and
serves as a witness for civil litigation. His
previous work experience includes Assistant
Chief with the City of Pittsburgh’s Bureau of
Building Inspection. He has worked in code
enforcement for more than 25 years and is a
member of three different ICC Chapters holding
various offices, including President. Henry
previously served on the Training and Education
Committee, Building Code Development Committee,
Property Maintenance Code Development Committee
and the Mechanical Code Development Committee
for ICC.
Henry holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering
and a master’s degree in public management from
Carnegie Mellon University. He is ICC certified
in several categories including plans examiner
and inspector for accessibility, building and
electrical. In addition, he is a Certified
Building Official, a licensed Professional
Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and
has presented training for the Community College
of Allegheny County, AIA Pittsburgh, University
of Wisconsin, Pittsburgh Local Government
Academy, BOCA, ICC and several ICC chapters.

Valerie and Roger Pease
are cofounders of INSPIRATIONWORKS, LLC, a
consulting firm dedicated to improving results for
individuals and organizations by delivering
practical tools to develop emotional intelligence.
The Firm designs and guides learning experiences
encompassing leadership, team building, creative
thinking, problem solving, change and quality
management. As Adjunct Faculty at Portland State
University the Peases offer “Spirit In
Communication:Practical Tools For Developing
Emotional Intelligence” in the College of Liberal
Arts Communication Studies Program. This skills
development course includes learning about and
practicing specific communication skills, including
dialog, lateral thinking, and tools that can be used
daily for results. The intent of INSPIRATIONWORKS is
to provide a system to more fully experience the
richness of life, at work and at home.

Steve Carmen and John
Comery have more than 30 years combined experience
as Certified Fire Investigators. They will share
stories and present research on post-flashover
investigations, review of NFPA 921 for fire
investigators, and report writing for the CFI. |
