The demands of emergency service
delivery require that all District
employees, career and volunteer, be
involved in a demanding, comprehensive,
on-going training program that prepares
them to make critical decisions based on
finely honed skills, judgment, and
creativity. The Training Division
provides just that...comphrehensive
instruction that helps TVF&R deliver the
highest quality service to Fire District
patrons.
The Training Division is accredited
through the Department of Public Safety
Standards and Training (DPSST) to
deliver certified training from
Firefighter I to Fire Officer II and
many specialty areas such as technical
rescue, hazardous materials and water
rescue. Through outstanding interagency
cooperation, many of our initial
certification courses earn our employees
college credit through Portland
Community College.
Training Division staffing consists of
two EMS training officers, three fire
training officers, an administrative
assistant, and a chief training officer.
Resources such as learning libraries in
each fire station, e-learning tools,
modern classrooms and training props
allow thousands of simulation scenarios.
This assists our firefighters and
paramedics in becoming the very best the
industry has to offer.
Upon hire, each firefighter attends a
Recruit Academy at the Training Center
where they learn a foundation of skills
to build their firefighting career with.
Upon completion, continuing education is
provided in Emergency Medicine,
Wellness, Leadership & Supervision,
Specialty Teams and continuing education
as required by local, state, and federal
regulations. We believe a highly
skilled and trained workforce equipped
with reliable and effective response
tools will contribute to reducing
incident severity.
