TVF&R is a strong advocate of personal physical fitness for all District employees.
This is illustrated by the continued support of Wellness staff, policies, fitness
equipment in all District facilities, as well as the allotment of exercise time
during the workday.
The TVF&R Wellness Program conducts a confidential physical fitness assessment
annually for all uniformed staff. The fitness assessment is not intended to be punitive in nature, but
is intended to assess individual fitness levels for use in adapting and setting
personal fitness goals. This evaluation is mandatory for all uniformed
personnel, and is available and highly recommended for all support staff.
Personalized exercise prescriptions, tailored to meet the specific fitness
needs of the individual, are a significant component of the Wellness program. Personalized exercise prescriptions account for an individual's current level
of fitness, job duties, time restrictions, physical capabilities, nutritional
status, and individual goals. The Wellness Coordinator and Peer Fitness
Trainers are responsible for conducting exercise prescriptions for District
staff.
The Physical Fitness Program is designed to:
- Increase awareness of the importance of physical fitness and health.
- Assess and monitor current physical fitness levels.
- Track and reinforce progress in physical fitness and health levels.
- Increase individual and group physical fitness levels.
- Reduce incidents and severity of preventable illness and injury.
- Create an environment that supports and encourages the attainment
of high levels of physical fitness and overall health.
