As your fire department, we know that the risks and dangers of our profession will never allow for zero injuries and deaths among those who serve. However, we abhor the loss of life and injuries caused by untrained or reckless occupational practices. In other words, while all firefighters are heroes by nature, only a small percentage of those who lose lives in the line of duty,
dos so heroically. It has been well documented that the balance of these deaths are genuinely preventable!
TVF&R’s Safety, Health and Survival Division was established in 1998 to develop comprehensive safety policies and conduct preventative health and wellness screenings under the guiding principle of firefighter safety. TVF&R has always considered health and safety to be one of its highest priorities. The investment of staff, equipment, and health screenings is a reflection of the importance that TVF&R attaches to the responsibility of protecting our most valuable resource – our personnel.
Collectively we believe we can reach the "tipping point" where needless death and injuries to our brothers and sisters will not be accepted as part of the sacrifice to
the profession.
