All of TVF&R's firefighters are certified
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). At a minimum, firefighters
are required to maintain an EMT-Basic certification. These
certifications are maintained through the Oregon Department of
Human Services (DHS).
Our EMTs provide patient care and treatment under the direct
supervision of the District's Physician Supervisor,
Dr Mohamud Daya, MD, MS. Dr. Daya is the EMS Fellowship Director for the
Dept. of Emergency Medicine at
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).
There are three levels of EMT certification maintained by TVF&R firefighters:
- EMT-Basic (38%)
- EMT-Intermediate (4%)
- EMT-Paramedic (58%)
The Oregon Board of Medical Examiners determines the
scope of practice for Oregon's EMTs. To review the
skills authorized for each certification level, feel
free to read the
Scope of Practice provided by the
Oregon DHS EMS Division.
Patient Treatment Protocols
To ensure the highest level of patient care is available
to our customers, each response unit is staffed with at
least one firefighter/EMT-paramedic. This is a requirement
for each unit, all stations, 24/7.
