To educate its community about important fire and life safety issues,
TVF&R offers a multitude of programs and services. In addition, District
personnel participate in many events throughout the year.
In an effort to reduce tragedies related to teenage drinking and driving,
the District participates in S.K.I.D. events each year at local high schools. The program is
a partnership between the Washington County Sheriff's Office and local law enforcement agencies,
Metro West Ambulance, LifeFlight (medical air transport), local school districts, and the medical
examiners' office. The program provides students with a realistic view of what can happen should
they choose to drink and drive. Since the program's inception in 1998, over 34,000 high school
students have seen a S.K.I.D. program and there has been only one alcohol-related death of a
student.
Only Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives!
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue implemented its Residential
Smoke Alarm Program in 1989. This award-winning program
utilizes on-duty firefighters to inspect and install smoke
alarms in homes throughout the District's service area.
Smoke alarms and batteries are provided at no cost to
District residents with limited financial means. The
District benefits from a partnership with Platt Electric,
a local distributor that provides discounted smoke alarms.
Thanks to a partnership with our firefighters' union,
hearing-impaired smoke alarms are also available to
limited-income persons.
The Fire District implemented its
Apartment Fire Incident Reduction
and Education ("AFIRE") in 1996
after 11 people died in two separate
apartment fires within a two-week
period. Since then TVF&R
created the
Multi-Family Housing Fire Reduction
Program. This program is
designed to educate Landlords,
Managers and their tenants on fire
safety education. Click

In an effort to prevent tragedies
related to children playing with
fire, TVF&R
offers a
Juvenile Firesetter
Program. The program offers free
screening, educational intervention,
and referrals for treatment to
parents, caregivers, and children
who have been involved with fire
activities. District representatives
meet with approximately 125 children
each year. Please call our North
Division at 503-356-4708 if your
child is showing an interest in
fire or for more information.
