What follows is the letter mailed (and emailed) to candidates on 11/15/07:

TVF&R is undergoing a number of changes in deployment of staff and other resources throughout the District so that we serve our communities as effectively as possible.  After a thorough review of staffing needs, we have determined that we do not need the additional staff a spring 2008 academy would provide.  It is too early to forecast what the District’s staffing needs will be going forward, but we will retain the current Firefighter and Firefighter-Paramedic eligible list in case we decide to move forward with an entry-level academy before the list expires in the spring of 2009.

Certainly this comes as a significant disappointment to candidates who have been preparing physically and otherwise to compete for positions in the spring of 2008.  We appreciate the undertaking candidates have made in participating in this selection process and do not take lightly our relationships with candidates seeking positions with TVF&R.  Unfortunately, with such long timelines for recruitment and selection, we occasionally must move forward with those processes while many variables remain unclear.

We will update all candidates currently on the eligible list when more information is known regarding any future selection process from this list.   We will also inform all candidates of any future recruitment that leads to the establishment of a new list.  Be sure to keep us informed of any postal or email address changes.

Candidates who were removed from the eligible list due to failure to attend the CPAT Orientation or Timed Practice (or failure to return a waiver for one of both events by the date of the event), will be reinstated to the eligible list.
