Almost 25% of the nations 400,000 annual residential fires occur in apartments.  One life is lost for every 125 apartment fires.  Since 1995, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue has fought over 23 major apartment fires.

3 Living Room 6.2%
4 Laundry Area 3.3%
5 Bathroom 2.4%

Causes of Fires

  • Cooking is the leading cause of home fires in the United States.  It is also the leading cause of home fire injuries.

  • Careless smoking is the leading cause of fire deaths.

  • Heating appliances are the second leading cause of residential fire and the second leading cause of fire deaths.

  • Arson is both the third leading cause of residential fires and residential fire deaths.
